Event tags

Event tags describe the format, audience, or special focus of a hosted karaoke night.

Event tags are short labels that help singers spot a karaoke night that fits what they are looking for. They do not replace the schedule, venue, host, title, or notes. They are extra context for the kind of night it is.

Use a tag when the host, venue, event page, flyer, or another reliable source clearly supports it. Do not guess from the venue, crowd, neighborhood, music you expect, or old memories. If a detail is useful but does not fit one of these tags, add it as a custom tag or in the notes.

The tags

  • Competition. A contest, battle, league, tournament, prize night, judged round, or scoreboard format.
  • Theme night. The event has a named theme, like Halloween karaoke, Disney night, emo night, costume karaoke, singles night, or a birthday takeover. Mention the theme in the event title, or on the recurring karaoke night if it is always the same, and add a custom tag when it helps.
  • Genre night. The song list or event focus is built around a music genre, era, artist, or scene: country, metal, K-pop, 80s, Broadway, anime, and so on. If the venue simply plays a lot of one style, only tag it when the event is advertised that way.
  • Language night. The night centers on songs in a language other than the predominant local language, or serves a specific language community: Spanish karaoke in Berlin, Korean karaoke in New York, French chanson night in Mexico City, and similar. Add the language as a custom tag if it is useful.
  • Drag karaoke. Drag hosts, drag performers, or a drag-centered format are part of the karaoke night. A drag bar alone is not enough unless the karaoke event itself is advertised as drag karaoke.
  • Open mic. Karaoke shares the stage with an open mic, singer showcase, jam, comedy/music open stage, or a format where non-karaoke performances can happen too.
  • Singalong. The event is built around group singing, crowd choruses, movie/music singalongs, or everyone singing together, not only a standard solo singer queue.
  • Family / all-ages. The event is advertised as family-friendly, kids welcome, all-ages, or open to under-18 singers.
  • Charity / fundraiser. The event raises money, benefits a cause, supports a nonprofit, or is tied to a donation drive.
  • Live band. Singers perform with a live band instead of standard karaoke backing tracks. This is still a hosted karaoke night, just with a band.

Custom tags

Custom tags are for useful details that are too specific for the fixed list: "anime," "country," "90s," "Spanish," "costume," "birthday," "industry night," or similar. Keep them short and factual. If a fixed tag already fits, use the fixed tag too so filters work.

A few examples

  • A flyer says "Drag Karaoke with prizes." Use Drag karaoke and Competition.
  • A venue posts "Every Thursday karaoke with a live band." Use Live band.
  • A host posts "Broadway karaoke night." Use Genre night and a custom tag like "Broadway."
